For this Pan-American Congress of Rheumatology, one of the pre-congress courses included in the program was Primary Care in Health in Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases.

Primary care in health plays a fundamental role in the comprehensive approach to rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. As the gateway to the health system, primary care physicians are the first to identify and treat these conditions, emphasizing the importance of their training and continuous updating in this field.

Diana Gil, president of the Colombian Association of Rheumatology (Asoreuma), explains that "Colombian stimulation was present". Of high academic and scientific level. "The academic level is quite high," she maintains, explaining that topics such as disease burden in musculoskeletal conditions in health systems; referral strategies in rheumatology: implementation at the primary care level and its role in early detection; the role of primary care in managing musculoskeletal diseases; and chronic musculoskeletal pain: differential diagnoses were addressed.

By empowering primary care physicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to detect and treat these diseases in the early stages, a significant impact can be achieved on the quality of life of patients and the sustainability of health systems throughout the Pan-American region. This holistic approach to the care of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases reflects PANLAR 2024's commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement in medical practice in the Pan-American region.

"This was innovative from PANLAR with Asoreuma, so that everyone can somehow identify early and contribute to these processes, which are often difficult and complex in a health system in this or any other of the other PANLAR member countries, and they can contribute that grain of sand at that particular point," says Dr. Gil.

She adds, "Almost always, congresses that are solely of their specialty, here we will have a version from the medical community. We will put into practice the day-to-day experiences to deliver a toolbox."

Dr. Gil emphasizes that this course allowed participants not only to acquire theoretical knowledge but also to put into practice the lessons learned in their daily work. This combination of theory and practice ensures that primary care physicians can effectively contribute to the early identification and comprehensive management of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases in their communities.

The inclusion of the medical community's perspective in this course is another innovative aspect that distinguishes PANLAR 2024. This course then became an invaluable source of learning and professional development for all involved
